The epic semi- final match report is below.

Harrow League U12 cup semi-final TFA U12a 2v2 Isledon Wolves (4v4 after extra time – TFA win 4v3 on pens)

The great movie director Alfred Hitchcock used to cast himself in a blink-or-you'll-miss-it cameo in his films. I could have sworn he came on as a late sub in this game. It had more twists and cliff-hangers than Vertigo and Rear Window put together.

Disputed goals, stirring comebacks, re-taken penalties, sudden death spot kicks – this match had everything. It only lacked a streaker.

To give some context, the game brought together two sides in brilliant form. Both have been on long winning runs, sweeping aside opponents by big margins.

There were nerves in the TFA camp, though, with big-tacking Del and Giacomo both unavailable. Bravely, Louis moved free-scoring striker Jamal back to centre back to fill in. He was superb, but the strategy left Reece alone upfront, and the first half was scrappy as a result. TFA couldn't really get going against a well-organsed Wolves, who swarmed all over our dangerous wide men Robbie and Romaro. Later, Jamal was moved back upfront to be replaced by the uber-calm Andrea, who had a fantastic game. There were few chances until a speculative lob saw Wolves go one up.

A few minutes into the second half, the game exploded into life. A close range header was superbly saved by Nick. Everyone played on, but the assistant referee said the ball went over the line. Even Wolves seemed surprised. But the goal stood. Suddenly TFA turned it on. Ned and Jack dominated the midfield, Terry began overlapping on the left and Josh's dribbling caused havoc. Then Reece stabbed a poacher's goal from close range, before the majestic Henry calmly slipped the ball to Jamal to smash high into the next.

In extra time, TFA continued the onslaught. Again Henry fed Jamal for an emphatic finish. Minutes after Robbie seemed to have sown things up with a neat headed goal. But no. Two defensive mix-ups saw Wolves unexpectedly back in the game. And that was it. 4v4. Penalties.

Bravely captain Jack stepped up to take the first. Hit the post. But the ref ordered a re-take because of some crowd intimidation. He hit the same post.

TFA's next three pens – Ned, Henry, Robbie – were all dispatched, while Wolves scored one, hit one over the bar and had another beautifully saved by Nick. Andrea stepped up to hit the winner, but it was saved. Wolves scored, then Mark (smallest and youngest player on the pitch) drilled his nervelessly into the corner. Wolves needed to score to stay in the tie. Nick dived to his right. Save. TFA mayhem.

We all went home for a little sleep. Bring on Spartans!
